About Charlie James

Charlie James is a singer-songwriter based in Whitechapel, East London. After playing (guitar / vocal) in various rock bands he recently rediscovered the acoustic guitar.

During an initial foray into country rock music he recorded an EP produced in LA by Grammy award nominated and award winning producer Brandon Friesen. The EP features performances by Chris Condon (MD for Billy Ray Cyrus) on guitar and legendary rock backing vocalist Stevie Vann Lange. A song from this EP ‘The Man You Take For Worse’ received national radio play. Other songs from the full EP ‘Somewhere East of Denmark Street’ reached the top of several indie radio charts in the US and UK.

In the last 12 months, Charlie has built on his strong lyrical style to write songs in the classic singer-songwriter genre. His writing reflects the influence of US artists such as Paul Simon, Dylan and Springsteen but also British new wave such as Ian Dury and Elvis Costello. He is currently recording tracks for his forthcoming album ‘Diary of a Sick and Troubled Mind’ in London with British producer Nick Tauber who is best known for his work with Thin Lizzy, a further major influence of Charlie’s music.

Nick Tauber

After years of working in the music industry, the last 10-15 years have seen the longest period I can remember when people like Charlie have failed to appear. His music and lyrical style are a breath of fresh air and something very much needed. I hope that his music will open the flood gates for more of this to come
